October 24, 2016 - Gloria Cordova
The Office of Science and Technology Policy held a Forum on Quantum Information Science at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington on Tuesday, October 18. CQuIC Director Carlton Caves participated in the meeting, at which leaders in quantum information science (QIS) from academia, industry, and government were brought together to “exchange views on key needs and opportunities, and consider how to maintain vibrant and robust national ecosystems for QIS research and development.” A critical question considered at the Forum was how best to nurture education and workforce training in QIS in the United States. Caves recommended establishment of federal programs to seed faculty positions in QIS so as to provide a critical mass of QIS personnel at key institutions, who can build up interdisciplinary degree programs in QIS from the undergraduate level through the PhD.
