Andrew (Andy) Ferdinand graduated from Cal Poly State University in 2011, where he worked in the area of laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, and "Saturated Absorption for a Magneto-Optical Atom Trap as a Step toward Atomic Dipole Traps in a Diffraction Pattern from a Circular Aperture".
